Japans current hardware and software sales data for July bring some interesting insight into how and what is currently selling over the pacific.

Data taken from Famitsu, a Japanese videogame magazine, shows that Super Mario Maker 2 for the Nintendo Switch takes the number one spot so far as the best selling game this month. They have sold 54,720 copies of its already sold total of 334,071 games.

According to Gamespot, Super Mario Maker 2 was the number one selling game in the United States, and that is not including digital sales. Nintendo seems to be doing pretty good.

Speaking of Nintendo, 9 out of the top 10 games sold in Japan are on the Nintendo Switch, while PS4 is in 10th place with Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle selling 5,421 copies of its already sold total of 20,238 games.
Plus, Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle is on the list twice at 8th place for the Nintendo Switch selling 1,338 more copies than the PS4 of its already sold total of 25,886 games.

Also, only 6 of the listed games have released this year with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a game that came out in 2017, holding steady in its 6th place spot.

Looking at Japan's hardware sales, the Nintendo Switch has finally surpassed the PS4's lifetime sales in Japan, not worldwide, at 8,504,730 systems sold with the PS4 at 8,221,539 sold.

Nintendo 3DS/2DS is still performing actively with a little more than 500 units being sold, while PlayStation Vita is doing somewhat ok at 179 units sold, and Xbox, never really being big in Japan, at 50 units sold.
